Philip Johnson

Philip Johnson Philip Johnson was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on July 8, 1906. Philip Johnson attended Harvard College, majoring in the classics. There, in 1927, Johnson began his career as an architectural critic and historian in 1931, when he became director of the architectural department at the newly formed Museum of Modern Art in New York. Johnson entered the Harvard graduate school of design. In 1949 Johnson design his own house he built it out of glass and wood. Johnson did not become a working men architect into he was in his 30’s. Johnson returned to Harvard at the age of 34 to study the architecture after he came back from the military. In 1967 Philip Johnson made a partnership with John Burgee. Johnson and Burgee design the AT&T headquarters in 1984 in New York City. In 1932 he was name director of the department of architecture of the museum of modern. Johnson designed many landmarks arcos the nation including the twin trapezoid – shaped place in Houston it had 51 Story. up for defection by building himself a house in Cambridge for his thesis; he used the house to entertain extravagantly and it allowed him to enter the architectural profession in style. In the early work of the 1970’s and 1980’s Johnson began a new design and he wanted build a building with a lot of color and some thing that was going to become a big building he work on it and became the AT&T building. Johnson built Transco Tower it has 64 floors and it is 90 feet long it is not a central business district the skyscraper the glass and the steel severity of the international style in an art deco-In design. Seagram Building was location in New York it was built in 1957 it had glass walls and steel frame. The PGG PLACE was built in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania it was built by American Philip Johnson he completed the building in 1984 it had 40 floors it was 635 feet and 194 m.
